Thirupathisamy is a determined journalist whose exposés of crime and corruption win him admirers and enemies in equal measure. When the woman he is about to marry, played by Sonia Agarwal, is abducted, he has to work out which of the many people he has offended is behind it, and the hunt turns into a game of moves and counter-moves, as the title, Tamil for "chess", suggests. Karu Pazhaniappan wrote and directed the film, which was completed in the mid-2000s but held up for years before finally reaching cinemas in 2011. Music is by Vidyasagar. The film relies on its twisting plot and the hero's resourcefulness rather than star spectacle, and it is remembered as a tidy, intelligent thriller that deserved a timelier release.
