Balu, a cheerful college student, is the only son of Durai, a respected and peace-loving village elder. Studying in Chennai, he falls for Hema, his friend's sister, and his life seems settled. But years ago Durai publicly humiliated Kasi, a brutal goon from another town, and Kasi has never forgotten it; when he finally comes for revenge, the gentle son has to show that he is a fighter. Sandakozhi ("fighting cock") made Vishal a mass hero and remains one of his biggest hits, praised for Rajkiran's dignified father and Lal's menacing villain. Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs, especially "Dhavanipotta Deepavali", were huge, and a sequel, Sandakozhi 2, followed in 2018.
