Gautam lives in America, and when the financial crisis wipes out his family's wealth, he heads to Bihar to sell an ancestral mansion. The region's kidnapping gangs see a rich NRI and grab him, but they soon discover he is worth far less than they thought, and the hostage begins to outwit his captors. Sankarabharanam is a Telugu crime comedy, a remake of the Hindi film Phas Gaye Re Obama (2010), written and produced by Kona Venkat. Anjali appears in a special role, and the title borrows that of the famous 1980 K. Viswanath classic, though the films are unrelated.
