Guru steals cars for a living. One job goes badly wrong: the car he takes contains a bag full of cash belonging to a vicious moneylender, and the money disappears before he can return it. With a deadline hanging over him, Guru races across Mumbai, dragging in his girlfriend, a fading film producer, a religious godman, assorted gangsters and an unlucky collection of bystanders, as each tries to make off with the loot. Sankat City is a dark caper comedy in the tradition of Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, full of eccentric characters and absurd coincidences, and gives Kay Kay Menon a rare comic lead. Director Pankaj Advani was known for his offbeat black humour, and the film gathered a cult following after its release.
