Sendhoorapandi is a rural Tamil drama from the early career of Vijay, directed by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. Vijay plays a young man whose romance becomes entangled in village rivalries and family pride. Vijayakanth, then one of Tamil cinema's biggest action stars, plays the strong-willed elder figure Sendhoorapandi, whose presence dominates the second half. Vijayakanth agreed to appear to help launch the young Vijay, and the film's success gave the newcomer an early hit. Its mixture of village pride, family honour, romance and action was a template that both stars would return to.
