Seval (2008)

Seval ("rooster") is a village drama set in southern Tamil Nadu in an earlier era. Murugan, played by Bharath, is a cocky, good-hearted young man who falls for a priest's daughter, played by Poonam Bajwa in her Tamil debut. Their love story is threatened by the village's rigid social order and by a powerful family with its own designs, and the conflict escalates into violence. Director Hari, known for fast-paced action dramas like Saamy and Singam, slows down here for a period melodrama with a strong emotional core. Simran plays an important supporting role, and Vadivelu handles comedy.
