Description

Shahjehan is set in the time of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, the builder of the Taj Mahal, and spins its love story and court intrigue around the poets and nobles of his court. K. L. Saigal, the first superstar of Hindi film song, plays a poet, with Ragini and Rehman. The film is remembered above all for its music by Naushad, which includes Saigal's Jab Dil Hi Toot Gaya, one of the last great hits of his career; Saigal died the following year. It was also the first film for which Majrooh Sultanpuri wrote songs, beginning a career as a lyricist that lasted more than five decades.
