Danish has dreamed of films since childhood in Igatpuri, and he can act with his whole face and body, but he cannot speak. With the help of Akshara, an assistant director who believes in him, he finds an experimental technology that lets another man's voice speak for him. The voice belongs to Amitabh Sinha, an alcoholic old man who once failed as an actor and now lives in a graveyard. Together they become "Shamitabh", a sensation, until success makes each one wonder who the star really is. R. Balki's satire on fame, ego and the film industry reunited him with Amitabh Bachchan after Cheeni Kum and Paa. It gave Dhanush his second Hindi film after Raanjhanaa, marked the debut of Akshara Haasan, daughter of Kamal Haasan, and has music by Ilaiyaraaja.
