Gautham has grown up in the United States, where his family's fortunes have collapsed. The plan is simple: travel to Bihar, sell the old ancestral mansion and fly home with the money. But in a region where kidnapping is a thriving business, a rich-looking NRI is a prize, and Gautham soon finds himself passed from one gang of abductors to another, each convinced he is worth a fortune. The comedy comes from the bargaining, the bumbling criminals and Gautham's slow realisation that he will have to outsmart them all. Shankarabharanam is a Telugu remake of the Hindi satire Phas Gaye Re Obama (2010), adapted by writer-producer Kona Venkat, with Anjali in a lively special role.
