Rahul is a rich, careless young man whose pranks finally land him in trouble with the law. As punishment he is sent to do community service at a home for the elderly, a place he regards as a prison. Instead he finds a group of old people with sharp tongues, unfinished dreams and families who have forgotten them, and as he warms to them he becomes their champion, while a romance with Hrishitaa Bhatt's character develops alongside. Shararat ("mischief") was one of Abhishek Bachchan's early films, and it gives a broad comic showcase to a group of veteran actors, led by Amrish Puri. Sajid-Wajid composed the songs.
