Sheen is set in Kashmir as militancy takes hold in the valley around 1989 and 1990. It follows a Kashmiri Pandit family and their daughter Sheen, whose ordinary life of home, neighbours and young love is overturned as threats against the Pandit community grow and families are forced to choose between staying and fleeing. Raj Babbar plays the head of the family. Director Ashok Pandit, himself a Kashmiri Pandit, made the film to bring the exodus of the community from the valley to a wider Hindi audience at a time when few mainstream films had addressed it directly. The title role marked the screen debut of Sheen Dass. The film mixes a love story with the political drama.
