Sheetla Mata is a Hindi devotional film centred on the goddess Sheetla, who is revered across North India as the protector of children against smallpox and fever, and whose worship falls around Holi and the Navratri season. Like most devotional films of its time, it tells of faithful devotees tested by hardship and of the miracles that follow their unwavering faith, with bhajans and temple scenes woven through the story. Jaya Kaushalya and Satish Kaul, a familiar face in Hindi and Punjabi films of the period, lead the cast. Production details are scarce, but it remains a seasonal favourite for festival viewing.
