Shivaji Surathkal is a crime-branch investigator with an unusual mind: he notices everything, talks to himself, and treats every case as a puzzle. When the son of a powerful minister is found dead at a remote resort in the hill town of Ranagiri, Shivaji is sent in to find the killer quickly and quietly. Everyone at the resort, from staff to guests, seems to be hiding something, and the deeper he digs the more the case begins to touch his own troubled private life. The full title is Shivaji Surathkal: The Case of Ranagiri Rahasya, and it is a rare old-fashioned whodunit in mainstream Kannada cinema, anchored by a playful, layered lead turn from Ramesh Aravind. Its success led to a sequel, Shivaji Surathkal 2, in 2023.
