Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007)

The film reconstructs one of the most famous encounters in Mumbai's history. In November 1991, the police's newly formed anti-gang squad surrounded a building in the Lokhandwala Complex where Maya Dolas and his associates were holed up, and a long gun battle followed in full public view. Told partly through the inquiry that followed, with Amitabh Bachchan as the lawyer questioning the officers, the story moves between the squad led by ACP Shamsher Khan and the rise of Maya, a young man who became a ruthless gangster. Based on real events and the officer A. A. Khan, the film was a hit, Vivek Oberoi's Maya won praise, and the song 'Ganpat' became a club favourite. Shootout at Wadala followed in 2013.
