Rasheed, home in Kozhikode on leave from the Gulf, is a respectable family man who lets out shop space in front of his house. One evening, egged on by his friend the auto-driver Suran, he brings a woman he has picked up into one of the empty shops, and Suran pulls down the shutter to keep them hidden. Then Suran fails to come back, and Rasheed is trapped with a stranger, a few metres from his own family, with every passing hour making discovery more likely. Sreenivasan plays a film director whose own story crosses theirs. Joy Mathew's debut as director was praised for its tension, humour and humane view of its characters, and it was remade in Marathi under the same title and in Tamil as Oru Naal Iravil.
