Shuttlecock Boys (2012)

Four friends in Delhi who play badminton together every evening are stuck in jobs and lives that are going nowhere. Over late-night games and conversations they decide to take a chance and start a business of their own, and the film follows their struggle to raise money, deal with families who want them to play safe, and keep their friendship intact when things start to go wrong. Shuttlecock Boys is a small, low-budget independent film made with newcomers by first-time director Hemant Gaba, and it was praised for its honest, unglamorous view of middle-class ambition. It was picked up for a limited theatrical release in 2012 after being made on a shoestring.
