Simharasi is a Telugu village drama from 2001 and the directorial debut of V. Samudra. It is a remake of the Tamil hit Maayi (2000), and Rajasekhar plays a respected benefactor whom the villagers revere, a man who settles disputes, protects the weak and asks nothing for himself. Beneath his authority lies an old wound connected to his mother and sister, which comes back to the surface when a young woman, played by Sakshi Shivanand, enters his life. The film combines rural action with heavy family sentiment and gave Rajasekhar one of his popular roles of the period.
