A young man freshly trained as a police sub-inspector is posted to his home region, where the police are locked in a bloody conflict with Naxalite rebels who claim to fight for the poor. Meanwhile a hot-headed young villager is drawn to the rebels after seeing the injustice around him. The two men end up on opposite sides, and the film refuses easy answers about who is right, showing the cost of the violence for the villagers in the middle. Krishna Vamsi's drama won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu, and Sirivennela's song Ardha Sathabdapu, questioning what fifty years of independence had delivered, became famous. It was an early breakthrough for Ravi Teja.
