Singaravelan is a good-natured young man from a village whose mother wants him to marry his cousin, the daughter of an uncle who left the family long ago. He travels to Madras with his friends to find her, and when he does, she is a modern city girl with problems of her own, and a dangerous man with designs on her family's fortune. Winning her over takes charm, comic disguises and finally his fists. R. V. Udayakumar's film is a light-hearted entertainer, with Kamal Haasan in a relaxed comic role and Goundamani providing the comedy. Ilaiyaraaja's songs were very popular. It is known in Hindi as Rakhwala Mohabbat Ka.
