Sathyamoorthy is a young lecturer who arrives in a southern Tamil Nadu village to study its people and their voting patterns. He finds a region held in the grip of brutal political strongmen who decide elections with violence, and as he falls for a local girl and earns the trust of the villagers, he is drawn into open confrontation with them, revealing a fierce side and a personal history linked to the region. Sivappathigaram ("red chapter") was directed by Karu Pazhaniappan and stars Vishal, with Mamta Mohandas in her first Tamil film and Raghuvaran as her father. Vidyasagar's songs were well received.
