Manjunatha begins as a sceptic who mocks Lord Shiva and his worshippers, much to the distress of his devoted wife. A series of events, miracles and losses make him question his pride, and the story follows his journey from defiance to deep devotion, with Shiva himself appearing at key moments to test and guide him. The film is based on the legend associated with the Shiva temple at Dharmasthala in Karnataka, where the deity is worshipped as Manjunatha. Made by devotional specialist K. Raghavendra Rao in Kannada and Telugu, it cast megastar Chiranjeevi as Shiva, with Arjun Sarja as the devotee and Hamsalekha's devotional songs at its heart. It remains a popular devotional film in both languages.
