Srimanthudu (2015)

Harsha is the son of a billionaire businessman, but money and the family firm mean little to him; he wants a life with purpose. He falls for Charusheela, a rural development student who wants to change villages, and through her he discovers Devarakota, his father's ancestral village, now poor and terrorised by a local gang. Harsha quietly adopts the village, investing his own wealth and labour in it, and that brings him into direct conflict with the men who profit from its misery. Srimanthudu ("the rich man") was one of the biggest Telugu hits of 2015 and of Mahesh Babu's career. Its idea of adopting a village struck a chord: the film was followed by real public calls, including from actors and politicians, to adopt villages. Devi Sri Prasad's songs, including Jaago, were chart hits.
