In State Rowdy, Chiranjeevi plays a swaggering, fearless young man who earns the title of the state's most notorious rowdy, beating up criminals and challenging corrupt men in power. As the story unfolds, his real motives and a hidden past come to light, connecting his violent crusade to a personal wrong. The film is a 1989 Telugu mass entertainer from director B. Gopal, who would later make blockbusters such as Samarasimha Reddy, and it pairs Chiranjeevi with both Radha and Bhanupriya. Bappi Lahiri's songs and Chiranjeevi's dancing were a major draw, and it was among the hits of his late-1980s peak.
