Surya grows up in Malvani, a working-class district of Mumbai, where his talent at carrom makes him a local legend before he is out of his teens. Dreams of a job abroad fall through, and his skill becomes a way to make money in the gambling dens run by Jaleel, a feared local don. The more Surya wins, the deeper he is pulled into a world of riots, debts and violence that threatens the people closest to him. Striker, set across the 1980s and 1990s, was one of the first Hindi films built around carrom. Siddharth, the Tamil and Telugu star, plays Surya, and Aditya Pancholi was praised as Jaleel. The songs were shared among several composers, including Amit Trivedi and Vishal Bhardwaj.
