Tadka (2022)

A grumpy, food-obsessed bachelor and a young woman who dubs films for a living are connected by a wrong-number call about a dish. They argue, then talk, then find themselves sharing recipes and confidences, and each starts to look forward to the other's voice. Neither is quite what the other imagines, and when the moment comes to meet in person, nerves get the better of them and they send stand-ins, setting up a parallel romance between the younger pair. Prakash Raj directs this Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit Salt N' Pepper (2011), which he had earlier remade in Tamil and Telugu as Un Samayal Arayil. The film was completed years before it finally reached audiences in 2022, and its pleasures are Nana Patekar's rare comic-romantic turn and the lovingly shot food.
