Sameera is a nurse from Kerala, struggling with debt and a broken first marriage, who takes a job in a hospital in Tikrit, Iraq, with her colleague and new husband Shaheed. When militants overrun the city in 2014, she and the other Indian nurses are trapped inside the hospital and then taken captive, while Manoj Abraham, an official at the Indian embassy, tries every channel he can to negotiate their release. Take Off is based on the real rescue of 46 Indian nurses from Iraq in 2014 and was the directorial debut of film editor Mahesh Narayanan. Parvathy won the Silver Peacock for best actress at the International Film Festival of India and a National Film Award special mention. The film was dedicated to director Rajesh Pillai, who had been developing it before his death.
