Tamizh Selvan (1996)

Tamizh Selvan is a 1996 Tamil political drama directed by Bharathiraja, the film-maker who changed Tamil cinema with his rural films of the late 1970s. Vijayakanth, famous for his crusading roles, plays an upright IAS officer whose refusal to bend to the powerful sets him against a corrupt political system, with Roja as the heroine and Manivannan and Vadivelu in support. As he pushes for reform and justice for ordinary people, he becomes a target for those whose interests he threatens. The film combines a message about honest administration with the fights and drama audiences expected from Vijayakanth, who would later enter politics himself. The Hindi dub is titled Abhimanyu IAS.
