Shiva has drifted through five years of college without a degree and finally decides to earn his keep as a cab driver in Hyderabad. With the family's savings he buys an old but gleaming car at a bargain price, and business is good until strange things begin to happen: the car drives itself, scares away a rowdy passenger and seems to want to go somewhere. Shiva and his friends discover that the vehicle is tied to a woman whose story points to a frightening secret, and he becomes determined to find out what happened to her. Taxiwaala mixes horror, comedy and mystery, and is unusual in building its scares on the idea of astral projection. The film was leaked online weeks before release, yet still became a hit, which was widely credited to Vijay Deverakonda's popularity after Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam.
