Teen Patti (2010)

Venkat Subramaniam, a reclusive mathematics professor, believes he has found a formula that can predict the outcome of seemingly random events. To test it in the real world, he and a younger colleague, Shantanu, recruit a group of bright students to play teen patti, the Indian three-card game, in underground gambling dens. The winnings grow, and so do the egos and the risks, until the game turns from an experiment into a trap. The story is framed by Venkat's account of events to a famous British mathematician. Teen Patti was the first Hindi film of Ben Kingsley and the debut of Shraddha Kapoor, and it gave Amitabh Bachchan a rare role as an academic. Despite its cast, it was not a commercial success.
