Tejasvini (1994)

Tejasvini is a young IPS officer with an unbending sense of duty. Posted to a city where gangsters operate under political protection, she refuses to look the other way, and soon finds herself at war with powerful men, played with relish by Amrish Puri among others, who expect the police to serve them. Her mission becomes personal when the battle reaches her own family. The film is the Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster Kartavyam (1990), in which Vijayashanti played the same kind of officer and won the National Award for Best Actress. She reprises her role here for the Hindi audience. Vijayashanti's run of police and action roles earned her the nickname 'Lady Amitabh', and this film is one of her few starring roles in Hindi cinema.
