Thalaivaa (2013)

Vishwa runs a dance group in Sydney, unaware of his true family history. When he falls for Meera and travels to Mumbai to meet her family, he learns that his father, Ramadurai, is "Anna", the respected protector of the Tamil community in Dharavi, locked in a long conflict with a ruthless gangster. Events soon force Vishwa to step into his father's place. Thalaivaa ("leader") moves from light romance and dance numbers in Australia to a gangster drama in the vein of Nayakan, with G. V. Prakash Kumar's songs. Its release in Tamil Nadu was delayed by a dispute, so it opened outside the state first.
