Krish and Meera are an urban couple with comfortable lives and a marriage that has gone sour; they bicker, drift and no longer know what they want from each other. When they hear of a rare butterfly in Goa that is said to grant happiness to whoever finds it, they set off on a search that becomes a journey through their own disappointments, with a free-spirited woman played by Koel Puri entering their story along the way. The Great Indian Butterfly is a small, largely English-language Indian independent film, the debut feature of writer-director Sarthak Dasgupta, and it uses its quirky fable-like premise to look at modern marriage and the elusive idea of contentment. Aamir Bashir and Sandhya Mridul carry it with naturalistic performances.
