The King and the Commissioner brings together two iconic characters from 1990s Malayalam cinema: Joseph Alex IAS, the hot-headed collector Mammootty played in The King (1995), and Bharath Chandran IPS, the furious police officer Suresh Gopi played in Commissioner (1994). Both films were made by director Shaji Kailas and writer Renji Panicker, who reunited for this crossover. Now posted in Delhi, the two officers are brought together to investigate a conspiracy that threatens national security and reaches into the highest levels of power. The film is built on the long, punchy English-and-Malayalam speeches that made both characters famous, and on the long-awaited pairing of the two stars, together on screen again after many years.
