The Replacement Killers (1998)

John Lee is a professional killer working for the Los Angeles crime boss Terence Wei to pay off a debt that protects his family in China. Wei orders him to kill the young son of the detective who shot Wei's own son, and Lee cannot do it. Now Wei has sent replacement killers after him, and his family is in danger too. Needing a forged passport to get home, Lee turns to Meg Coburn, a tough forger, and the two are soon fighting their way across the city. This was the first American film for Hong Kong star Chow Yun-fat, famous for John Woo's action classics, and the feature debut of director Antoine Fuqua, who later made Training Day. Woo served as an executive producer, and the film's stylised gunfights pay tribute to his Hong Kong work.
