The Sholay Girl (2019)

Reshma Pathan grew up poor in Bombay and, while still a teenager, began doing stunts in films to support her family, at a time when men in wigs usually doubled for actresses. She leapt from horses, jumped from heights and was dragged under carts, and is best remembered for doubling for Hema Malini's Basanti in Sholay (1975), including the famous tonga chase. The film follows her rise in a world that paid her little and rarely gave credit, as well as the injuries and prejudice she endured. Bidita Bag plays Reshma in this biographical drama, which was released digitally in 2019 and drew renewed attention to the forgotten stunt artists of Hindi cinema.
