Thenali is a Sri Lankan Tamil man who suffers from every phobia imaginable. He becomes the patient of Dr Kailash, a renowned but vain psychiatrist, who quickly loses patience and goes off on a family holiday to escape him. Thenali follows, wins over the doctor's family completely and turns Kailash's life upside down, while the doctor's increasingly desperate attempts to get rid of him backfire one after another. The film is a much-loved Tamil comedy, inspired by the Hollywood film What About Bob? (1991). Kamal Haasan spoke Sri Lankan Tamil for the role, Jayaram matches him as the exasperated doctor, and A. R. Rahman composed the songs. It was a big hit of the Deepavali season in 2000.
