Thiruvannamalai takes its name from the Tamil temple town and is directed by Perarasu, who specialised in place-named mass entertainers such as Thirupaachi, Sivakasi and Dharmapuri. Arjun Sarja leads, with Pooja Gandhi, then a rising star in Kannada, as the heroine and Sai Kumar as a strong antagonist. The film follows Perarasu's usual formula of a righteous hero, a corrupt and violent opponent, devotional undertones from the setting, loud punch dialogues and songs by Srikanth Deva. It is for viewers who enjoy unpretentious Tamil mass films of the late 2000s.
