Pattabhiraman Giri, a Malayali Brahmin whose family has long lived in a village in the Hindi heartland, finds himself targeted by Mahashay Bhagwan, a charismatic godman with political muscle who wants his land. As he and his family are pushed to the edge, Aslan Mohammed, an enigmatic Muslim stranger with unusual abilities, enters their lives. Written by Murali Gopy, who also plays the godman, the film is an allegory about faith, power and religious politics wrapped in a mass-action frame. It brings brothers Prithviraj and Indrajith Sukumaran together on screen, and much of it is set in north India. Its ambitions divided critics, but its themes made it one of the more talked-about Malayalam films of 2017.
