Turtle (2018)

Turtle is an independent film directed by Dinesh Yadav, set in the dry countryside of Rajasthan, where water is the most precious thing a family can have. Sanjay Mishra, the versatile character actor known for both comedy and serious roles such as Ankhon Dekhi and Kaamyaab, plays the central part of an ordinary man caught up in the struggle for water. The film uses the slow rhythm of village life to make its point about the crisis rather than leaning on melodrama. It was recognised at the National Film Awards, and is a good pick for viewers who like socially conscious, low-key cinema.
