Ullathai Allitha (1996)

Ullathai Allitha is a Tamil romantic comedy that became one of the big hits of 1996 and helped establish Sundar C as a director of breezy entertainers. Karthik plays the son of a wealthy man who falls for a young woman played by Rambha; to get close to her and her family, he hides who he is, and his deception sets off a series of comic complications involving rival elders and mistaken identities. Goundamani, one of Tamil cinema's great comedians, is a big part of the film's appeal, trading barbs with Karthik in scene after scene. The soundtrack by Sirpy was a major success, and the song "Azhagiya Laila" became one of the most famous Tamil hits of the decade and a signature number for Rambha. The Hindi version is known as Munna Baba.
