Ustad Hotel (2012)

Faizi has secretly studied cooking abroad, dreaming of a career in a top kitchen overseas, which enrages his father, who had planned something very different. Cut off and stuck in Kozhikode, Faizi ends up working at Ustad Hotel, the modest seafront eatery run by his grandfather Kareem, a master of biryani and of life's lessons. Through food, the old man shows him what cooking and feeding people can really mean. Ustad Hotel is a warm, much-loved Malayalam drama written by Anjali Menon, with Thilakan's memorable performance in one of his last major roles. It won the National Film Awards for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and for Best Dialogues, and Gopi Sundar's songs, including "Appangal Embadum", were hits.
