Sharp is a happy, aimless young man in Chennai who spends his time with friends and has no interest in settling down, until he sees Priya and falls for her at once. There is one problem: she is already promised to a feared local tough, and her family has no wish to break the arrangement. Sharp sets out to win her anyway, with the help of his friends and a great deal of cheek, and the rivalry soon turns into open conflict. Vaalu is a light romantic comedy with action, built around Silambarasan's screen persona and Santhanam's comedy. Its release was delayed by more than two years, and its eventual arrival in 2015 was celebrated by the star's fans. Silambarasan and Hansika Motwani had been a real-life couple during production, which drew extra attention to the film.
