Vaanam follows five lives over a few days. A slum-dwelling cable operator will do anything to win a rich girl; a would-be rock star wants a big break; a courtesan dreams of escaping her life; a poor family is desperate for money to escape debt; and a Muslim man is hounded by suspicion after a bomb blast. Their paths converge at a hospital on the night of a terror attack, where each must choose who they really are. The film is director Krish's own Tamil remake of his acclaimed Telugu film Vedam (2010), with Anushka Shetty reprising her role as the courtesan. Silambarasan and Bharath lead an ensemble that also includes Prakash Raj and Saranya, and Yuvan Shankar Raja's soundtrack includes the hit "Evan Di Unna Pethan". It is notable as an ensemble drama in mainstream Tamil cinema.
