Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam (2019)

Set in a Kerala village in the 1980s, the film begins when a man seeks out the parish priest and tells him about a killing. Bound by the seal of confession, the priest is drawn into the events behind it, and the narrative moves back and forth between the confession and the tense days in the village that led up to it: a young man, a love affair, an old grudge and a body in a pit. The title translates as "The Murder at Varikkuzhi". Director Dileesh Pothan, known for Maheshinte Prathikaaram, appears in an acting role as the priest, and the film was noted for its slow-burn mystery structure and period village atmosphere.
