A cheerful, talkative village lad comes to the city looking for work and lands a job at a five-star hotel owned by a wealthy young man (Sarath Babu). His rough manners cause comic chaos, but his loyalty is real, and when he discovers that people close to his employer are plotting to kill him, Raghupathi becomes his unlikely bodyguard. Velaikaran ("the worker") is the Tamil remake of the Hindi hit Namak Halaal and was one of the big successes of Rajinikanth's collaboration with director S. P. Muthuraman. Rajinikanth's comic timing, especially in his broken-English scenes, Amala's charm and Ilaiyaraaja's songs made it a favourite. This page is for the Tamil film.
