Vertical Limit (2000)

Years after a climbing accident in which their father died, Peter Garrett and his sister Annie are no longer speaking. Annie is now a famous mountaineer, and she joins billionaire Elliot Vaughn's publicity climb of K2. A sudden storm buries the summit party in a crevasse, alive but with only hours of air and warmth. Peter puts together a volunteer rescue team, including the reclusive veteran Montgomery Wick, and they climb carrying canisters of nitroglycerine to blast the ice open, knowing that one slip or jolt can kill them. Directed by Martin Campbell, who made GoldenEye and Casino Royale, the film was shot largely in New Zealand's Southern Alps, standing in for the Karakoram, and was a big worldwide success thanks to its avalanche and cliff-hanging set pieces.
