Veyil (2022)

Veyil ("sunlight") is a Malayalam family drama written and directed by debutant Sarath Menon. Shane Nigam plays a restless young man who, with his elder brother, grows up under the care of their hard-working mother, and the film follows the bonds and resentments within the family as the brothers grow apart and come back together. Sona Olickal plays the woman he loves, and Sreerekha plays the mother. Veyil had a troubled journey: during its shoot in 2019 a public dispute between Shane Nigam and the producer led to a ban on the actor by producers in Kerala, and the film was finally released in 2022 after the matter was settled. It is a quiet, emotional drama.
