Vikram Vedha (2017)

Inspector Vikram leads a special squad in Chennai that shoots gangsters without trial, and he is certain he is on the right side. His biggest target is Vedha, a notorious criminal; but in the middle of the hunt Vedha walks into the police station and gives himself up. Then he begins telling Vikram stories from his life, each ending with a riddle, each forcing the cop to rethink good and evil. Pushkar–Gayathri built the film on the old folk tale of King Vikramaditya and the Vetala, who tells the king a story and asks a question. The face-off between Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi made it one of the most acclaimed Tamil films of 2017, and Sam C. S.'s background score became famous. The same directors remade it in Hindi in 2022 with Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan.
