Yatra ("journey") dramatises the 2003 padayatra of Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, then leader of the opposition in undivided Andhra Pradesh, who walked some 1,500 kilometres through villages in the summer heat to meet farmers, labourers and the poor. Along the way he hears their stories of debt, drought and unpaid medical bills, and the film shows how those encounters shaped the welfare schemes he would promise and the defiance he showed towards his own party's high command. Mammootty, playing the role in Telugu after a long gap, gives a restrained, dignified performance, and the film keeps its focus on the walk rather than on his whole life. It was followed in 2024 by Yatra 2, about his son Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
