A husband whose work keeps him away from home for long stretches discovers that his wife has been drawn into an affair with his smooth-talking friend. In a moment of fury he shoots the man and then gives himself up, and the case becomes a sensation in court and in the newspapers, dividing the public over whether he is a murderer or a wronged husband. The film was inspired by the real Nanavati case of 1959, which gripped Bombay and led to one of the last jury trials in India. Sunil Dutt produced and starred, with the elegant Leela Naidu as the wife. The same case later inspired Achanak and Rustom. Ravi composed the music, including the title song.
